text Bush's plan to spend away the terror Simon Tisdall via rialator, Tuesday, Oct 23 2007, 11:22pm
Planned US spending on the "global war on terror" is set to rise sharply in the coming year despite claims by President George Bush that al-Qaida is on the run in Iraq. A funding request sent to Congress this week seeks $196.4bn (£95.8bn) for counter-terrorism in 2007-8, $25bn up on this year. The Pentagon's separate budget request amounts to an additional $481.4bn.

text The Real Masters of War zoran, Saturday, Oct 20 2007, 12:22am
Consider the very real possibility of a persecuted European nation waging a covert guerilla war against the most powerful forces on the planet and prevailing. Many would be surprised to learn that the real masters of war are the most unlikely nations. The three nations proven to excel in covet, guerilla wars of attrition are Afghanistan, Serbia and Vietnam – the historical record bears this out. Not surprisingly these nations have been at war for most of their history – not by choice but by circumstance. It seems their strategic locations have doomed them to a history of constant struggle and conflict; and nothing has changed today! (story and 1 comment)

Lt. Watada image Watada: What's a (thoughtful) lieutenant to do? Dean Paton via rialator, Friday, Oct 19 2007, 2:04pm
OCT 5 2007 -- Let's assume Lt. Col. John Head, the Army judge who presided over the first court-martial of Lt. Ehren Watada last February, used impeccable legal reasoning when he denied Watada the right to insist that the war in Iraq is illegal -- which, the young soldier says, makes it his sworn duty to protect the Constitution by refusing to fight in such a war. 'Only Unity Saves the Serbs' image NATO attempts to revive old enmities in Balkans Milan, Friday, Oct 19 2007, 12:34pm
NATO has recently completed joint military exercises with the non-member country of CROATIA. The scenario of the exercises was based on a military action against a ‘breakaway Balkan province’ – give us all a break! This pathetic attempt to revive old enmities between Balkan states and perhaps to utilise Croatia to do the dirty work recalls the very ‘chequered’ history of Croatia’s complicity with Hitler’s Nazis and the war crimes committed by fascist Croats against Serbs. Mr. Putin's message to Condoleezza Rice and Bob Gates: "Of course, we can some time in the future decide that some anti-missile defense should be established somewhere on the moon," said Mr. Putin, with more sarcasm than wit. (story and 1 comment and 1 image)

By Mike Barber, Seattle Post-Intelligencer. October 5, 2007

A federal judge in Tacoma has delayed the court-martial of 1st Lt. Ehren Watada, a Fort Lewis Army officer to refuse to deploy to Iraq. In a rare intervention of a civilian court in the military justice system, U.S. District Court Judge Benjamin H. Settle granted the emergency stay shortly before close of business Friday. Watada's trial, slated to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, is now postponed until at least Oct. 26, the judge ruled. (story and 1 image)

text The [U.S.] Administration’s plan for Iran Seymour M. Hersh via reed, Monday, Oct 1 2007, 2:40pm
The New Yorker -- October 8, 2007 -- In a series of public statements in recent months, President Bush and members of his Administration have redefined the war in Iraq, to an increasing degree, as a strategic battle between the United States and Iran. “Shia extremists, backed by Iran, are training Iraqis to carry out attacks on our forces and the Iraqi people,” Bush told the national convention of the American Legion in August. “The attacks on our bases and our troops by Iranian-supplied munitions have increased. . . The Iranian regime must halt these actions. And, until it does, I will take actions necessary to protect our troops.” He then concluded, to applause, “I have authorized our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran’s murderous activities.”

text The Pig grunts: songs of war and avarice peptide, Sunday, Sep 16 2007, 4:20pm
Not a lot has changed, has it? The excuse for launching the Crusades was to protect the ‘Holy Land’ from the heathen, the truth, however, was pillage and destruction of the Eastern Orthodox church, which rivalled Rome in influence and affluence. The Byzantine Empire was rich in gold but lacking in political cunning – and so it was crushed and plundered much to the joy of the Pope and the Catholic hierarchy of the time.

'Die-in' Washington protest image Washington ‘die-in’ Protest nano, Saturday, Sep 15 2007, 12:16pm
WASHINGTON Sept 15 -- Thousands of American citizens demonstrated in opposition to the criminal war in Iraq and to assaults on the Constitution and Bill of Rights by marching along Pennsylvania Avenue and staging a ‘die-in’ on the lawn of the Capitol. Approximately 200 protesters were arrested for various ‘offences;’ however, the 25,000 protesters made their point that the most heinous OFFENCE is the murder of one million innocent civilians in Iraq! Iraq stop over, Bush and Rice inspect their handiwork image Why tolerate a Farce? major mitchell, Thursday, Sep 13 2007, 12:52pm
It is no secret that Bush stopped over in Iraq on his way to the APEC summit in Australia to ENSURE that Gen. David Petraeus supplied a positive report to Congress. I do not wish to draw too much attention to the fact that this administration leapt into Iraq without a proper plan or an understanding of the consequences. Statements to the effect that the Iraqi people would welcome foreign invaders with open arms or invaders would be welcomed with “bouquets of flowers” typify the insanity and dissociation of the Bush regime. It is little wonder that the then Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld, briefed the President that the war had been won in three weeks, “mission accomplished,” when in fact it hadn’t even begun! Nonetheless, in clear view of past monumental failures, today we are expected to disregard the greatest political folly/debacle of the century and take Bush and Patraeus at their shabby word – well, tell it to your grandmother because no one believes it any more! Australian Comedian image It’s 9/11 – it’s SLOGAN Time: leave your minds at the door! abacus, Monday, Sep 10 2007, 8:58pm
Americans love a slogan and what better slogan to typify our times than Rumsfeld’s, now infamous “shock and awe!” Please note we do not attribute authorship of that slogan to him; the lunacies that issued from his mouth were many and varied. However, on the anniversary of 9/11 we are all reminded of the power of slogans and the events associated with them! (story and 1 image)

Cheshire cat image APEC Chess, your move! Captain, Saturday, Sep 8 2007, 4:40pm
As is usual in political summits it is that which remains unsaid that delivers the ‘loudest’ message. The absurdity of it all is verified by the FACT that we live in absurd times! Ignoring the usual dull business deals of uranium, gas, various other resource sales and especially the ridiculous pretence of ecological concern sold to the public as “aspirational” pollution reduction goals (bunk) we couldn’t help but notice, with some mirth, new ‘temperate’ war strategies occurring among the superpowers. apecdemo.jpg image APEC: Sydney’s message to the World, “STOP BUSH!” Kingfisher, Friday, Sep 7 2007, 1:38pm
Sydney has sent a clear and hopeful message to the world during the APEC summit. Today, amid unprecedented police presence (oppression) and draconian tactics, usually characteristic of dictatorships, the people of AUSTRALIA demonstrated in steel-fenced Sydney and made known their sentiments regarding war crimes and terrorist States. The peaceful “STOP BUSH” march in Sydney has shamed the police state tactics of John Howard’s conservatives and Premier Iemma’s fascist ‘blue shirts.‘ (story and 2 images)

text Phase III of Bush's War Pat Buchanan via rialator, Wednesday, Sep 5 2007, 11:43am
If you ever doubted the destructive and paralysing power of DISUNITY, read on! For the want of a modicum of commitment a world was plunged into chaos and conflict. This message is not for our 'leaders' it is for the people who are able to override any government on the planet if they so wish!

None of us need to learn that principles of harmony, peace and UNITY offer our only chance for survival on this planet. The brutish logic of beasts, 'might is right,' would result in annihilation in today's world. If you doubt it remain divided, powerless and alienated and watch social conditions continue to deteriorate worldwide!

We are One or we are nothing! [Ed.]

Fred image Pets, Twats and Fallacies Captain, Monday, Sep 3 2007, 1:53am
The pet section of this paper deals with my dog called “dog” my cat called “cat” and my pet budgie called “Frederick the Great,” so ends the pet section! The twat section could go on forever as female anatomy has always fascinated me but space limits my discourse to ‘how sweet it could be,’ so ends the twat section. The fallacy section is extremely popular these days in fact the world is running on fallacies; never before have so many people tolerated so much bullshit! (story and 3 comments and 1 image)

The propaganda machine is humming; even the radicals assist our cause – the more opposition and division the better! The Middle East has been successfully destabilised and plunged into chaos. We have appropriated the second largest oil supply on the planet and have ensured our presence in the region for decades to come by simply continuing our policies of antagonising/radicalising locals and encouraging them to take up arms. We have forced the world to assist us by creating conflict and wars in diverse locations. Our economy is A WAR ECONOMY, local production is now almost entirely war related; it would be suicidal for America to engage in any peaceful solutions. (story and 1 image)

Vacuum canister image APEC: the idiocy of major city ‘security’ krill, Monday, Aug 27 2007, 2:00pm
The independent press has just received an unverified report that a chemical agent, designed for atmospheric release, will be utilised by high level security agents FROM ONE OF THE PARTICIPATING NATIONS – no other details were forthcoming! Wind direction notwithstanding, a virulent chemical agent could have a devastating impact on anyone within its effective range. The likely source has been narrowed down to either Russia or the United States. In view of the severe pressure the Bush regime is presently experiencing AMERICA would be the most likely source of the attack. I would add that anonymous, unsubstantiated reports of this nature are usually made by mentally disturbed crank callers – perfect! However, the remote possibility the call is a legitimate warning would only serve to highlight the imbecility of holding this type of event in a major city. (story and 2 images)

Fair fuckin’ go! It’s not enough we host a summit for the world’s mass murderers, major polluters and brazen thieves and have our beautiful city of Sydney delivered from our hands by a lackey Prime Minister and an Italian fascist Premier (riding his brand new water cannon!) But to add insult to injury, and as a final gesture from overlords to the serf population -- a fireworks display on Sydney Harbour to mark the end of the APEC summit will be CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC!
