NEW YORK — How big do you have to be to earn the wrath of the United Nations and Internet giant google? If you're journalist Matthew Lee, all it takes are some critical articles and a scrappy little Web site. Lee is the editor-in-chief, Webmaster and pretty much the only reporter for Inner City Press, a pint-sized Internet news operation that's taken on Goliath-sized entities like Citigroup since 1987. There’s a lot of well written stuff out there; no one can claim defeat if the British and Australian governments feel it necessary to filter the free flow of information on the internet. Of course all such idiotic measures are doomed to failure as were measures employed to prevent the spread of books after the printing revolution (hundreds of years ago). Nevertheless, the same ignorant forces exist today as [they once did] in the dim, dark, past.

Why bother or fuss, the result of US elections is a forgone conclusion, it’s “back to the future” with the plutocrat’s choice, Murdoch anointed, Hillary Clinton! Does anyone really have any doubts? The status quo is safeguarded with a change of face. Hillary’s foreign policy is indistinguishable from the neo-con's. It’s a “Bilderberg” (by invitation only) world -- the name under which today’s plutocrats determine the destiny of their shaky world! (story and 2 images)

Vladimir Putin image Vladimir Putin: “The world's most popular leader”? Mike Whitney via rialator, Saturday, Dec 1 2007, 7:57am
On Sunday, Russians will vote in their country's parliamentary elections. The results are a foregone conclusion. Putin's party, United Russia, is expected to win in a landslide. The only question is whether the margin of victory will exceed 70%. If it does, then Putin will continue to be the most powerful player in Russian politics even after he steps down from office next year. (story and 1 image)

“What we are seeing is the empowerment of the individual to conduct war,” says John Robb, a counterterrorism expert and author of the book Brave New War (John Wiley & Sons), which came out in April. While the concept of asymmetric warfare dates back at least 2000 years, to the Chinese military strategist Sun-tzu, the conflict in Iraq has redefined the nature of such struggles. As events are making painfully clear, Robb says, warfare is being transformed from a closed, state-sponsored affair to one where the means and the know-how to do battle are readily found on the Internet and at your local RadioShack. This open global access to increasingly powerful technological tools, he says, is in effect allowing “small groups to…declare war on nations.” (story and 2 images)

text Google: a Tzarist model Kismo, Sunday, Sep 23 2007, 1:03pm
Previous posts (see links) relating to google sounded a warning which most (including government regulators) chose to ignore but the information juggernaut took note via its own info monitors and pulled all stops in its aims to capture the entire information network! Not content with controlling the lion's share of available info google now seeks to gain control of information infrastructures by increasing its controlling shares of existing communications companies and NOW by building its own global comms network. The included (below) Australian article reveals google’s ambitions. However, few have bothered to consider the consequences of google’s obsessive/manic pursuit of ALL ASPECTS of information control.

googlevi.jpg image The New Evil Empire: Google displaces Microsoft Kismo, Friday, Sep 14 2007, 1:55pm
In today’s digital world of networking and information access, corporate interests that are able to control and manage the flow of information place themselves in immensely powerful positions – far more powerful than any State, government or traditional Corporation. Since its introduction – only two decades ago – the Internet has become an indispensable feature of our lives. In fact, if the plug was pulled on the net the world as we know it would come to a standstill, such is the importance of the flow of information today. (story and 3 comments and 1 image)

googlechina.gif image ACCC takes 'deceptive' Google to court Mark Schliebs via reed, Wednesday, Jul 11 2007, 9:15pm
[To google with biased love:
Industry analysts and IT professionals are extremely familiar with google’s unfair practices. google itself advertised the fact that it would toss information freedom and fair play to the wind for a price. The entire free world witnessed google openly sell its 'integrity' to the communist totalitarian regime of China, proving without doubt that it consciously engages in the most appalling partiality and bias.

We wish the Oz Competition and Consumer Commission all success and we wish google the justice it deserves.

Wendi and Rupert image Murdoch’s Dealings in China: It’s Business, and It’s Personal Joseph Kahn via rialator, Monday, Jun 25 2007, 1:38pm
BEIJING, June 25 — Many big companies have sought to break into the Chinese market over the past two decades, but few of them have been as ardent and unrelenting as Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.

Mr. Murdoch has flattered Communist Party leaders and done business with their children. His Fox News network helped China’s leading state broadcaster develop a news Web site. He joined hands with the Communist Youth League, a power base in the ruling party, in a risky television venture, his China managers and advisers say. (story and 1 image)

The digital revolution has created an imbalance in the supply of information, which has impacted heavily on minority ruling interests. Media moguls, minority interests and their puppet governments are lamenting the good ol’ days when the mass media supplied ‘disinfected’ information to a gullible population. Millions around the globe are now able to exchange information, become independent publishers and have a ‘voice’. It is not surprising that information from sources at an ‘event’ often contradicts popular reporting and tailored versions disseminated by the mass media and centralist governments. text The Public Speaks for Itself gan, Monday, Mar 20 2006, 1:06pm
As mainstream media and unrepresentative governments narrow the scope and range of social discourse, the public network has exploded with millions of ‘voices’ that continue the public discourse in a social space conveniently created by the forces that fear free expression most. The blogosphere is without competition as the primary body of free speech in today’s digital age. It is not unexpected that the content and character of independent speech is in contrast and opposition to the mainstream discourse of minority interests. It would seem that attempts to limit and tailor the social debate have resulted in unexpected consequences. (story and 1 comment)
