international / theology / opinion/analysis

It was recently brought to my attention that I had not addressed Islamic fundamentalists with the usual vigour I reserve for other religious hypocrites. After deliberating on this oversight – more a result of my lack of knowledge of Islam – I have decided to completely abandon the general approach of opposition and highlight instead the similarities in all religions and the unity of humankind. Which was always the underlying theme in my previous papers.

The vast majority of people are aware that war solves nothing and that hate only engenders more hate, we all know it, so I would address that muted voice in us that cries out for Love's sake. There is no way to eradicate that voice – it speaks all languages to all people – denying it cannot silence it. It rears again and again like the waves on the shore; it constantly blooms on the battlefields of despair and makes trivial all the transitory woes of the world.

That voice, in many different ways speaks of Love, Unity and Peace. Harmony results from those three pillars of Truth. That muted, but ever-clear voice is our standard against which we are able to test all things. Any theologian, politician (or whoever) who does not exemplify or reiterate those three principles for any reason whatsoever – is a liar, thief and murderer.

When you find yourself you will discover that we are ONE indeed.

If you would hear that ‘voice:’

"Let go of thought and bring it not into your heart, for you are naked and thought is an icy wind. You think in order to escape from torment and suffering, but your thinking is torment's fountainhead. Know that the universe of God's making is outside of thought..." (Jalaluddin Rumi, Islam)

"And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:" (Jesus Christ)

"Be still and know that I am God." (Judaism)

"Union is the elimination of the movement of thought." (Patanjali, Hinduism)

"There is no cognition, no attainment and no non-attainment." (Heart Sutra, Buddhism)

And on it goes…

Regardless of slight variations, the message is the same, exactly the same. Regardless of historical period place or culture, it is the same ‘voice’ that speaks. It does so because we are all of one human heritage (pattern) and the tendency to Peace and Love is innate and irresistible.

The Sages who discovered the means to end suffering freely shared it with All. Let nothing divide you, division is torment and death.

Peace to you All.

We are ONE.
